How can I burn/mount an ISO file on to a blank CD-R Disk?
What software do I need, and what am I supposed to do it? It’s supposed to be the Sims 1 Complete Collection, but I can’t figure out how to use the file correctly or what software to use.
The difference between an .ISO (International Standards Organization) image and a regular program file is the ISO contains the entire image of a “full” CD-R including the “boot sector”, File Allocation Table (FAT) if any and all the data files that make up the collection (.exe, .dat, files etc).
An individual program file may be as little as a single .exe (EXEcutable file) or a data file (.dat). These can be copied onto a CD-R/W but will not be able to “boot” on their own as a stand-alone disc.
NOTE OF CAUTION: An .ISO disc image is an EXCELLENT way fro someone to trick you into loading an awful lot of virii and their supporting files on to your computer!!
Both Roxio and Sonic RecordNow Plus! have menu options for creating entire disc images from an .ISO file built into their menus. Other utility programs have “RawWrite” options that simply stream the .ISO onto the writeable media beginning at track 0, sector 0 (or track 1, sector 1) and these are very, very basic utility programs.
Good luck! Proceed with EXTREME CAUTION. Ideally it would be a good idea to only run a “home brew” .ISO disc on a computer you are willing to risk loosing completely (a sacrificial junk-box to use as a test machine). A machine with no otherwise important data or files stored on its hard drive; because as you may know the only way to recover some heavily-virus-contaminated PCs is to “slick and reload” the hard drive.
