Converting a mains to a vehicle charger?
Hi, I’m importing a remote training collar for a dog from the USA to Australia. http://shop.sportdogbrand.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=10 The 110 volt input charger will be useless for the Australia supply which is about 200-240 volt. Will I be able to cut off the mains plug, connect a Cigarette Lighter car plug, & have success in charging? Cheers.
Neither the website or owner’s manual mentions the OUTPUT voltage of the charger. Nor do they appear to offer a Car Charger. IF it were 12 volts DC and IF there is nothing unique about the charger (such as current limiting – which I suspect may be the case) which is required to safely charge the batteries, you MIGHT be able to install a lighter plug. Make sure that you get the polarity correct.
You may want to make sure that the radio frequencies used by the device meet your local regulations.
A small transformer type travel adapter (50 watts or so) might be the easiest solution.
Call the manufacturer. They should be able to answer your questions.
